MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, November 13, 2008 — EPI’s Australian Director Ian Dobson has been appointed as editor of the Australian Universities’ Review (AUR), a scholarly journal now into its fiftieth year. AUR is published by the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU), the 25,000-strong union for staff in Australian post-secondary education institutions.
AUR is a large and widely distributed journal by any standard. It has a hard copy circulation of about 8,000, and is made freely available to everyone via its web site (http://www.aur.org.au). AUR is also available via the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) website.
AUR’s editorial policy is ‘to encourage debate and discussion about issues in higher education and its contribution to public life’. As is obvious from its title, the prime focus is the higher education system in Australia, but Dobson wants to increase AUR’s reach to the rest of the world. “Because AUR is available free-of-charge, it is a resource for scholars anywhere in the world. At the moment, the on-line archive only goes back about ten years, but in time, every issue will be available through the website”. AUR is not restricting itself to Australian material. “We live in a global village, and AUR is happy to receive material from and about other university systems”. Intending authors can submit manuscripts to firstname.lastname@example.org. Papers are blind peer-reviewed, and is listed on the Australian federal government education department’s ‘register of journals’.
AUR is published twice a year, in February and September. Although freely available via the AUR website, anyone preferring to receive AUR in hard copy could take out a subscription. Details are available at http://www.aur.org.au.
